Challenge
IADT was constructing a new catering facility and needed a partner capable of:
- Maintaining consistent, high‑quality catering in the old canteen
- Supporting the design and mobilisation of the new site
- Engaging students in shaping the new space and brand identity
- Ensuring a seamless transition with no service disruption
Our Approach
- Mobilising in Existing Facilities
Following contract award, we successfully mobilised the contract in the existing facilities over 8 weeks. The service transition involved implementing rapid improvements including new four‑week rotating menus and improving hygiene standards, enhancing the student experience ahead of the new build.
- Supporting the New Kitchen & Canteen Build
Working closely with IADT, we provided input on:
- Optimised kitchen layout and workflow
- Equipment choices aligned to sustainability and long‑term efficiency
- Construction and mobilisation timelines to ensure uninterrupted service
- Student‑Led Design & Branding

Recognising IADT’s creative culture, we invited students to submit their proposed design concepts for the new canteen. We picked a design that fitted the environment and worked with the award-winning students on the colour themes. Their contributions directly shaped the final aesthetic, fostering strong student pride and ownership.
In addition, we launched our IADT Student Cookbook. Recipes were developed by our culinary chef Matthew Wheatley, and the design created by a group of students.
- Launch & Transition
Once construction was complete, we executed a smooth transition to the new facilities through:
- Zero downtime in catering services
- Staff training focused on the new environment
- A welcoming opening campaign
- A cohesive, student‑informed brand experience
Launch included new products and giveaways from Lipton Ice Tea and Freshways. Freshways rewarded a mountain bike as a prize and Lipton supplied a range of free promotional items for students.
Impact & Results
The new catering environment has delivered a 32% increase in student uptake, driven by improved menus, a refreshed space, and strong student involvement in the design. The collaborative approach created a clear sense of ownership, with students recognising their ideas reflected in the final environment. The new canteen has quickly become a vibrant social hub that supports creativity, collaboration, and wellbeing across campus. Throughout construction, services continued without disruption, ensuring a dependable and positive experience from mobilisation to launch.
